About the Conference

At the PEACEBUILDING23 Conference** we want to discuss the factors of sustainable peace, that we can see in the countries that rank at the top of the Global Peace Index.

Almost everything from the theories of Johan Galtung seems to be confirmed when looking at data showing a deeply rooted "culture of peace" in these countries:

  • A legal ban of child corporal punishment *
  • A high level of gender equality and women`s protection of domestic violence *
  • A well developed democracy *
  • A low level of corruption
  • and more .. (to be discussed)

But we will also discuss about the role of religions regarding a "culture of peace", the terms "peaceful masculinity" and "caring masculinity", LGBTIQ+ rights, and others. Participants will be able to suggest other topics for discussion groups - it is basically the "barcamp" format.

That means of course that there will be a focus on the SDG 16 (especially: SDG 16.2) and SDG 5, among others.

* E.g: there is neither a legal ban of child corporal punishment nor a consequent legal protection of women against domestic violence in Russia. And it has a low level of democracy.

** Currently scheduled as an online conference, with local discussion groups, who are connected online in cities around the world.
